About Acxiom US Marketing
Acxiom US Marketing (Acxiom) is a well-known data and marketing services company based in the United States. Founded in 1969, the company operates primarily in the marketing and advertising industry, offering various services related to data management, customer profiling, and targeted marketing campaigns.
Challenge
Acxiom delivers simple and flexible data solutions intended to accurately recognize more consumers, define key audience segments, and manage customer acquisition and retention efforts. For their major consumer credit financial services customer, they wanted to develop a standalone data solution capable of processing large volumes of consumer financial data and integrate it with several outside systems into an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
They needed someone with extensive database, data warehousing, data integration and ETL (extract, transform and load) experience and ExistBI proved itself to be the best candidate for the job.
Solution
ExistBI’s best practices methodology was used to analyze the business requirements, review the EDW data model, and provide a comprehensive review of the design, architecture and development efforts and techniques. Based on the information and analysis, Oracle database and Informatica PowerCenter were the tools chosen for the project.
ExistBI assisted in the design of the solution architecture, systems integration and provided inputs and reviews on the EDW data model design. In cooperation with Acxiom’s internal development team, ExistBI Informatica consultants provided recommendations in setting up the Oracle and Informatica PowerCenter environments, development and testing techniques and the deployment methodologies.
ExistBI’s extensive experience with Oracle databases and Informatica PowerCenter also enabled it to provide Acxiom with faster deployment times while applying optimized development methodology and vast knowledge of heterogeneous data systems integration.
Expertise Offered
ExistBI offered the following expertise to help Acxiom meet its objectives:
- Informatica PowerCenter is a data integration and ETL tool used to extract data from various sources, transform it according to business rules, and load it into a target data warehouse or data repository for analysis and reporting. It is widely used to efficiently manage and process data.
- ETL development including a strong understanding of data structures, data modeling, and databases. ExistBI is also proficient in working with various data formats and sources, understanding data quality issues, and ensuring data accuracy during the extraction and transformation process. In addition to Informatica, ExistBI is well versed in working with ETL tools like Microsoft SSIS, Talend, IBM InfoSphere DataStage and SAP Data Services.
- Oracle Database is one of the leading and most widely used relational database management system (RDBMS) in the enterprise world for many years. They are highly scalable, designed to work effectively on various hardware configurations, robust and offer several security features to protect data from unauthorized access and ensure data integrity. Oracle databases offer options for deploying, managing, and scaling databases in cloud environments, such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
Results
ExistBI was able to provide a comprehensive review and hands-on guidance of development and integration tasks for Acxiom’s new data warehouse. This allowed the company’s systems integrator to stay on track, reduce overall development time, and keep costs to a minimum.
“ExistBI’s Informatica consulting resources (three) took responsibility and ownership for the data warehouse consulting, design and implementation tasks. Built a good trust relationship with the internal lead architect. The ExistBI consultants were extremely helpful, getting involved outside his job role to move projects forward. The consultants worked with rest of the internal team well to ensure they understood what they designed and developed. We found them very easy to work with and clear to understand.” – Dimi, Chief Data Architect, Acxiom.
