To manage their IT operations, Denver Water internally staffs for high demand and general while low demand and specialized skills are staffed with contract personnel.
Challenge
Denver Water uses Informatica PowerCenter for Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) services for their data management applications and needed an experienced contractor who could deliver administration, architecture, and development support. Specifically, they needed an Informatica and ETL expert to:
- Provide backup support for Informatica operations
- Assist to restore the Informatica application in the event of an unplanned outage
- Assist in debugging, perform root cause analysis, and resolve Informatica or ETL issues
- Participate in support calls to plan and implement software patches and upgrades
- Respond to a backup support request with an acknowledgment within 20 minutes of receipt and work to triage within 60 minutes of receipt
- Provide support documentation after each task.
Solution
ExistBI worked closely with Denver Water to deliver the following services:
Informatica Administration
- Maintain and own Workfront helpdesk ticket management and incident resolution process. This includes notifying business users of issue resolution when delayed delivery or incorrect data has impacted their processes.
- Manage and own Informatica PowerCenter application issues including applying permanent resolutions, implementing preventive measures, and submitting issue documentation.
- Deliver production system support including daily spot check of system health and managing the application release process.
- Support the release of new PowerCenter workflows and mappings into production servers, including building new or updating existing Enterprise Scheduler jobs.
- Provide documentation for primary support engagements.
- Assist with Informatica upgrade services.
Informatica Architecture and Development
- Review and optimize existing Informatica environments and recommend enhancements that improve operations and architecture.
- Deliver ETL development tasks including ETL specifications, documentation, and testing.
- Develop implementation plans for the upgrade of Informatica PowerCenter software.
